Last school year, between school and chess activities, I have found some time to do community service. Instead of hosting bake sales or conducting a recycling drive, I did some chess teaching. It had been a positive experience, as I mentioned on my blog before. I decided to continue my community service and share my chess knowledge with more local kids.
It so happened that the Thousand Oaks Chinese School needed a new chess teacher. Since I had volunteered at this school, I applied for the position, as a volunteer teacher, and Principal Shang and the school gave me this job.
This is my first time being an "official school teacher" with an official teaching certificate and I am determined to do my job well. First thing I need to do is to make sure the class is in order for a room full of pre-teens with way too much energy. Principal Shang also appointed Jack Cashman, a high A-player with teaching experience to co-teach the class. I have known Mr. Cashman for a few years, ever since I was one of those 8 year old kids, except with a little less physical energy.
I really hope that the kids can learn from the class. For those kids who are "forced into" the class by their parents, I’ll consider myself successful if they can tell the king and queen apart from each other by the end of the year, also sit facing forward and on chairs, instead of desks, with no physical violence to other kids or to the school properties. For those who truly want to learn and improve, I can really help them. I will feel good by the end of the school year, all of them can play a game with some idea of planning instead of just pushing the wood and some of them may bring home some nice chess trophies in regional chess tournaments.

Teaching kids how to play chess during spare time is a great way to share one's talent. It is rare for teenager to have thought about sharing his or her skills to others. With this, my salute to you for sharing your time and effort for other kids to learn how to play such board game.
Like http://smartdolphins.net/school-chess-classes/ kids are trained to become wiser as they go through an interactive chess training.
